NMC Vice President Application
After just three years, the NMC has established itself as a premiere academic case competition for undergraduate students from around the world. The National Mining Competition is now looking for Organizing Committee members to contribute to the 2015 Competition. This is a great opportunity for students of Business, Engineering, and Geology backgrounds to gain valuable leadership experience, learn about the mining industry, and meet people from all across world. Applications will be accepted until Sunday, February 15 at 5:00 pm
There are a total of eight Vice-President roles; each position is described below:
VP Corporate Relations
The VP Corporate Relations is responsible for raising sponsorship for NMC. Tasks will include building sponsorship packages, attending and pitching NMC in meetings, coordinating sponsor involvement and maintaining key relationships. This person must be a strong communicator, be organized, highly professional and capable of working independently. Ideally, this person will have experience working in a corporate setting, have experience in raising sponsorship and be knowledgeable of the mining industry.
VP Delegate Relations
The VP Delegate Relations is responsible for all communication with schools, interested students, and student organizations. Tasks will include building and managing relationships with interested schools, sending out updates of NMC news, and ensuring all teams and delegates enjoy their stay and weekend in Saskatoon. This person must be a strong communicator, organized, personable, outgoing and capable of working independently. Ideally, this person will have experience in communication roles, understand effective communication practices, and willing to show teams and delegates a good time while they are visiting Saskatoon.
The VP Academics is responsible for coordinating the development of the NMC Case and planning the academic portion of the event. Tasks will include communicating the NMC vision and strategy with the case developer, planning the NMC weekend challenges, coordinating the schedules of judges and developing the academic rulebook. This person must be a strong communicator, self motivated, highly organized and capable of working independently. Ideally, this person will have experience with case competitions and be knowledgeable of the mining industry.
The VP Marketing is responsible for the organization’s website, promotional materials, and recruitment materials. Tasks will include managing and updating website content, designing and developing the NMC Team Guide and Delegate Handbook, and ordering all competition merchandise. This person will ideally have experience in website design & management, graphic & document design, and ordering promotional product.
VP Human Resources
The VP Human Resources is responsible for managing all of NMC’s volunteers. Tasks will include recruiting, interviewing and training all NMC volunteers. This person will also be responsible for developing a training manual and coordinating volunteers between different event needs. This person will ideally have experience in event management, is highly organized, an excellent communicator and able to lead large groups of people.
The VP Finance is responsible for managing the finances and accounts of NMC. Tasks will include building detailed budgets, managing transactions, accounting for revenues and expenses, and completing income tax filings. This person will ideally have experience in accounting or managing an organization’s finances. This person needs to be highly organized, financially responsible and has to have a love for numbers.
The VP Events is responsible for organizing NMC Gala and NMC Night Events. Tasks will include planning and selecting decorations, arranging seating and ticketing and building relationships with local venues. This person will ideally have experience in event management and is capable of working independently. This person also needs to have an eye for decoration and style.
The VP Logistics is responsible for managing all of the intricate logistics in NMC. Tasks will include building a detailed event schedule, arranging event transportation, coordinating with NMC venues, and managing event photography. This person will ideally have experience in event planning or scheduling, needs to be highly organized and an excellent communicator.

Founded in 2012, the National Mining Competition is Saskatchewan and Canada’s first undergraduate mining case competition. Teams are challenged to solve an innovative mining strategy case relevant to business issues facing firms within the global mining sector. This year’s competition is recruiting undergraduate students from the faculties of business, geology, engineering, and others, to team up and compete at this this unparalleled mining-industry event.
